German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock paid a visit to the Agadir Technopark project while on an official two-days visit to Morocco, to see the progress of the “Tamhin” program.
The program concerns the training and rehabilitation of young people in modern technologies, and to integrate them into the workforce.
The German FM affirmed on Thursday that Morocco is an important partner to Germany and to the European Union.
“Morocco is only 14 km from Europe, making it obvious that there are strong ties between the two, not only between the foreign ministers, but between the two governments and the two peoples as well, and this is reflected in the presence of more than 160 German companies represented in Morocco and also in a growing trade volume. There are also about 50,000 Moroccans who are learning German,” said the German Minister.
She pointed out that there are 67 partnerships between higher education institutions in the two countries, and confirmed that strong cooperation is to come in several areas such as renewable energies, climate crisis combats, and green hydrogen development.
In regard to combating the climate crisis and developing green hydrogen, the German FM stressed that it is necessary to build on existing cooperation such as the “Green Hydrogen Alliance,” which was established in 2020, or the German-Moroccan energy partnership that has been in place ever since 2012.
This followed Birbock’s meeting with her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, where discussions were held on various political and economic issues, after the return of bilateral relations between Germany and Morocco to their previous era
